Dysart Reporter News – June 28, 1973 – Centennial Edition – Gypsies Fleece Dysart Man

For Dysart’s Centennial in 1973, the Dysart Reporter published a special edition documenting the history of the town. This article was a part of that publication.

“A bunch of gypsies drove through here last Friday, August 7, 1913. There were five wagons in the parade. They came here from the west and went toward Vinton. The story came ahead of them that they had swindled a Dinsdale fellow out of $22.00 but that he followed them and got his money back. Not so with  Pete Wilson of this place. He had his pocket picked for about $75.00 but thought too late to follow them when he noticed the money was gone. The women are sent through the town telling fortunes on the streets and in the stores. Most stores threw them out, while the men water the horses and watch out for the children as they are not as slick as the women.”
